FAQ :

Q1: I have a file with a weird extension, what do I do now?
A1:
—–
I don’t know, if it is a valid file, but it is always possible to try converting it to a valid file extension with a “help” program, like WinRAR/WinZip (check “extract files with a weird extension”).
Q2:

A2:
—–
This extractor is not the right one for all files, a good suggestion would be to check the file’s format with the “file” command. The format would be like:
FILE OFFLINE
bmp filetype
png filetype
jpeg filetype
exif filetype

If the file has a recognized file extension, BitmapRip will work on it.

BitmapRip is not an image editor.
If you want to edit a given image, I suggest you to use a free image editor that supports

bitmap: file to extract bitmap’s data from
bitmap_name: name of the extracted bitmap
output: name of the output file (if nothing is specified, the name of the extracted file will be used)
extension: extension of the extracted bitmap file (eg: “jpg”, “png”, “gif”, “bmp”, etc…)

For instance, using the following parameters:
bitmap: C:\Program Files\tetu.exe
bitmap_name: tetu_ip.jpg
output: C:\temp\tetu_ip.jpg

will produce a file (tetu_ip.jpg) containing the bitmap that is embedded into tetu.exe.

1.3. Optional programs:

1.3.1. MPE ( used to extract the data from the file.

1.3.2. ImageMagick ( used to generate the new file.

1.4. Usage

The usage of the script is very easy. The usage syntax is very similar to the usage syntax of “convert” command of ImageMagick.

1.4.1. Usage without parameters:

When called without parameters, the script will extract the bitmap contained in the specified file, and will output a new file with the same name but with the “jpg” extension.

1.4.2. Usage with parameters:

The script will extract the bitmap contained in the specified file, and will output a new file with the same name but with the

What’s New In BitmapRip?

The BitmapRip utility extracts embedded bitmap (JPEG, PNG, GIF) files from a given file. It search for bitmap’s headers / signatures, and create a new file for every data block that “seems” a valid image.

You should run this utility from a USB floppy. The reason is that the utility can not correctly extract the images from a hard drive and the utility will only check the floppy’s FAT structure and could not detect any image on the hard drive.

BitmapRip will normally do a very good job extracting embedded images from a file, but we are always available for helping you to extract a wrong image from a file. You just need to send the problematic file to our contact email.

Is this free software?

No. It is a free project. We charge nothing for using BitmapRip. If you find it useful, you are very welcome to make a donation.

If you find it useful, please pay what you wish to our organization.
